Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to intensify efforts to tackle the circulation of fake, contaminated and potentially harmful products across Nigeria.
Kadiri made the appeal in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she expressed deep concern over the safety of products being purchased and consumed by Nigerians.
According to the actress, counterfeit and poorly manufactured products, including food, drinks, medicines, cosmetics and household items, pose a serious threat to public health and human lives.

“Dear Nigerians, I’m speaking to you today with a heavy heart and deep concern about the circulation of fake products in our country,” Kadiri said.
She questioned the safety of everyday products available to consumers, particularly those purchased for children, saying the situation has left her increasingly worried.
Kadiri also shared a personal experience involving garlic which she said changed colour after being blended, prompting her to question the quality and safety of some food products available in the market.
“I’m literally afraid of buying already packed drinks for my kids because I am scared of what the outcome of that drink will be,” she said.
The actress further expressed concern over the number of Nigerians battling illnesses, urging NAFDAC to pay greater attention to the issue and strengthen its regulatory efforts.
“NAFDAC, please pay attention to the lives of Nigerians. Lots and lots of people are sick and are not getting better,” she appealed.

Kadiri’s comments have renewed public conversations about consumer safety, product regulation and the need for Nigerians to be more vigilant about the products they purchase and consume.
While raising concerns over suspected counterfeit or unsafe products, consumers are encouraged to report suspicious products through appropriate regulatory channels rather than relying solely on personal observations.
The actress’s appeal also highlights the importance of stronger collaboration between regulatory agencies, manufacturers, distributors and consumers in the fight against counterfeit and substandard products in Nigeria.
