Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.
Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom.
The death was confirmed to AIT Live by his nephew, Shehu Ahmed, although details surrounding the circumstances of his death were still limited at the time of reporting.
Following the news, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello and other government officials visited the deceased’s residence in Abuja to commiserate with the family.

Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as Ibro, served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He first assumed office in May 2003 after defeating the then-incumbent governor, Prince Abubakar Audu. His 2007 re-election was subsequently nullified by the courts, leading to a fresh election in March 2008, which he won. He remained in office until January 2012, when he handed over to Captain Idris Wada.
Before entering politics, Idris was a businessman and was associated with interests including trading, furniture manufacturing and hospitality.
