President Bola Tinubu has extended warm birthday wishes to Tony Elumelu, the renowned economist, banker, and philanthropist, as he celebrates his birthday on March 22.

Elumelu, who serves as chairman of Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Transcorp, and is the founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, was described by President Tinubu as an African business icon and a leading advocate of Nigerian and African enterprise.

The President commended Elumelu for his resilience, commitment to excellence across his ventures, and his unwavering belief in Africapitalism, a philosophy promoting the private sector as a catalyst for economic growth and social wealth creation in Africa.

Highlighting Elumelu’s dedication to empowering young Africans, President Tinubu particularly praised the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme. The initiative has trained over 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and empowered more than 24,000 aspiring African entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed capital of $5,000 each.

“As he marks this special occasion, I join his family, friends, and admirers to wish him good health, strength, and continued success in all his endeavors,” President Tinubu said.
