President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of his cabinet, effecting key changes in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as part of efforts to strengthen governance and boost economic delivery.
In a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, two ministers—Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa—were directed to step down from their roles, with immediate replacements announced.
Wale Edun, who served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been instructed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele. Oyedele, who previously held the position of Minister of State in the ministry, will now assume full responsibility for managing the nation’s finances and coordinating economic policy.
Similarly, Ahmed Dangiwa is to vacate his position as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. In his place, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister designate for the ministry. Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State pending the completion of the transition.
The directive mandates that all handover processes be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume stated that the president’s decision is aimed at “strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance” while ensuring “more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians” in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further noted that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in making the changes.
The president expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors. He also reassured remaining cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration within the government would be ongoing.
The reshuffle signals a continued effort by the Tinubu administration to recalibrate its team in pursuit of improved performance and policy outcomes.
