ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered an immediate investigation into an altercation involving personnel of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and commercial motorcycle operators in the Life Camp area of Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, reportedly followed an enforcement operation by VIO personnel attached to an FCT Administration task force responsible for enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycle operations on major roads and routes within the nation’s capital.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command was alerted to the confrontation at about 7:00 p.m. on September 17, 2026.
According to Adeh, preliminary findings indicated that the incident began when a VIO personnel attached to the task force had an altercation with a commercial motorcyclist.
The disagreement subsequently escalated into a confrontation, prompting the intervention of security personnel.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the matter,” Adeh said.
The police said the investigation would determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation and provide further information as more facts emerge.
The command also assured residents that normalcy has been restored in the Life Camp area, urging members of the public to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities.
The police further advised FCT residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
